Homeware items from Julianna Grove Presents

With the days growing shorter and autumn just around the corner, we’ll soon be spending much more time inside. At this time of year my thoughts usually meander over to the house and getting everything ready in time for Christmas. Take a look at these beautiful homeware items from Julianna Grove Presents. This is a really unusual collection of new talent and undiscovered artists.

And as well as homewares you can buy handmade jewellery, ceramics, accessories, cards and candles. Go to www.juliannagrovepresents.com.

I’ve just treated myself to one of the porcelain leaf decorations by Hannah Ayre.

Black and White

Black and white indie style

We bought some beautiful black and white bed linen recently and since then everywhere I look I see black and white in clothes, accessories and homewares. I’ve picked out a few indie examples to share.

RED INSTEAD handmade

Handmade tissue holder, bag, mobile and artwork by RED INSTEAD handmade

RED INSTEAD handmade is an Aussie brand created by the multi talented Jen Leheny. As an avid crafter Jen likes to make things, especially with her sewing machine. The shop is bursting at the seams with bags, clothes, painted ceramics, mobiles and artwork.

I love the tissue cozies - a practical way to stash your Handy Andies and pretty to boot.

RED INSTEAD handmade ships worldwide from www.redinstead.com.au.

Wood Tattoos

Work by Wood Tattoos

One of the added bonuses of writing for Indie Quarter is that I find lots of unusual gift ideas. I’ve recently added Wood Tattoos to my gift list. Designer Si Easton creates beautiful, hand-decorated wooden gifts from keyrings to furniture and everything in between. Using traditional and pyrography techniques he customises bowls, candle holders, frames, coasters etc. with images and personal messages.

Work by Wood Tattoos

The items themselves are beautiful in their own right but the artwork he uses - fantasy landscapes, wildlife, Celtic patterns - makes each piece individual.

You can buy directly from www.woodtattoos.etsy.com.

EKRA

Recycled Goodies from EKRA

Emily Kircher is a Recycling Artist. Hence the name EKRA. She breathes new life into found and reclaimed materials by turning them into quirky housewares and accessories. Salvaged fabrics from clothes, linens, and remnants are crocheted into rugs and bags and photo frames are ‘mosaiced’ using pottery shards from vintage teacups.

My personal favourites are the fridge magnets. Old bottle caps are decorated with illustrations from thrift store books and topped with clear resin. Very nifty.

Emily has two websites - www.etchouse.com/ekra and www.ekra.etsy.com.

Infinity Arts

Wall Clocks by Infinity Arts

Something a little bit different today. These beautiful handcrafted clocks are the creations of husband and wife duo, Mary and Justin Potts. Together they set up Infinity Arts and create one-of-a-kind art clocks using the movement of pendulums, bold design and colour to create eye-catching, functional art.

Numbers 2 by Infinity Arts

Not to be left out, their son Jonah also gets in on the act and works with them on their bold, striking wall art. A true family run company! Take a look at www.infinityartsgallery.com.

LP by rJax - A Handcrafted Brand

Binary Code Macram? Necklace Autumn Maple Leaf Macram? Necklace

I found these quirky pendants over at the LP by rJax Etsy store. Aren’t they beautiful?

They’re both hand cut from pieces of poplar and then sanded and completed with wood burned patterns. The pendant on the right includes a tiny maple leaf which has been decoupaged onto the wood. The pendant on the left spells out ‘craft’ in binary code. Even the cords have been hand knotted to add to the ‘rustic feel’ of the necklaces.

There are lots of other unusual accessories over at Rebecca Jackson’s Etsy store. See for yourself at http://lpdesigns.etsy.com.
