A Special Commission

Special Commission by Ness Donnelly

I meant to post this yesterday (Valentine’s Day) but time ran away with me. Just before Christmas I went along to the Manchester Craft Mafia craft fair at Urbis. Ness Donnelley was one of the stall holders. She makes beautiful embroidered samplers using traditional techniques and adding her own contemporary slant. Much of her work is about the passing of time and documenting events. She mixes textiles and paper, often stitching into the paper itself.

The above picture shows a customised sampler which commemorates my wedding day. I love the little people at the bottom and the lovely heart motifs.

If you’d like to capture your own little piece of history, you can contact Ness via her blog, www.folkdesign.blogspot.com.

oooh it looks so lovely, I wasn’t there the day Ness was and I so wanted to see her work, it looks amazing. And how special this commission is. I bet you’re so pleased with it - and I bet she enjoyed creating it for you too. How lovely.
