People often say that art is like visual poetry. (Or is it the other way round?) I think that collage or mixed media art is even more so. There are so may different materials and techniques to develop the imagery and capture a moment or thought or feeling. I’ve found some beautiful examples by Sophia Barao.

The mixed media piece shown top left has been printed over an original journal, written by a young woman in 1921 - 1922. The artist has imaginatively captured the difference between this woman and women of today. As with many of her works, Sofia depicts the passing of time by mixing old and new influences.

And in addition to creating beautiful works of art, Sofia also makes accessories with vintage and found treasures. The delicate necklace above is a vintage glass teardrop on copper chain.
