New Feature!

Friday, July 7th, 2006

Over the last few months I have met many designers/artists/makers through the blog. It seems to me that they all have pretty interesting lives, some juggling more than one job to establish their own businesses, others with trendy studios and retail outlets and many beavering away in their back bedrooms creating, designing and making.

I therefore started to think that as well as blogging about what they do and what they create, it would also be really interesting to blog about their lives. And therefore I’m delighted to introduce a brand new feature to Indie Quarter - ‘A Day in the Life of’. This will run at intervals and introduce a number of indie designers and give us an insight into a typical day in their lives.

If you would like to appear in ‘A Day in the Life of’ email me (Jenny) at info@indiequarter.com and I will send you some details.

Shock Paper Scissors Zine

The brand new craft zine ‘Shock Paper Scissors’ is now available to buy online. My copy arrived last week brimming with articles, crafty tutorials, interviews, reviews and more. Editor Anushka Tay has done a grand job in putting it all together and writing a number of the features.

I’m already looking forward to the second issue which is due out in the Autumn. If you’re interested in contributing, would like to buy advertising space (adverts are very reasonably priced) or would like to purchase a copy of the zine, go to www.shockpaperscissors.net. The zine costs just £2.50.

Three Green Apples

Scandinavian Beauty Pocket Wallet Oliver

The company name ‘Three Green Apples’ conjures up all kinds of wholesome images. When I had a peak at their products I wasn’t disappointed.

The collection includes soft elephant dolls, handbags, pouches, pocket wallets and more. And they all come in bright, juicy colours and are made from fun 70s vintage fabrics, retro prints and modern Japanese fabrics.

Meet Oliver (above left). Made from cotton and corduroy and stuffed with polyfill and beanies he’s a real delight to hug and hold. Also shown (above right) is the Scandinavian Beauty pocket wallet which is both functional and beautifully formed and created from vintage Scandinavian fabric.

Summer Shere

Denim Dress Stretch Rubber Dress

Shere? Jeter from Summer Shere? firmly believes that summer is the time of year which generates the most energy. This energy is channelled into her range of couture for women.

The style is funky and chic with an emphasis on comfort and having fun. Her Denim Dress (above left) demonstrates this beautifully. The use of striking colours and bold pink sash say ’sassy’ and at the same time the low waist and use of stretch denim provide comfort.

I also picked out the Stretch Rubber Dress (above right) which is both sexy and chic. Made out of breathable rubber with a soft cotton lining, it is completed with sheer brown sleeves and ruffles.

You can view the full range at www.summersheree.com.
